Last December I received an e-mail from a fellow dentist and classmate to inform me that he and his wife would be visiting Nassau on a cruise. Unfortunately I had planned for vacation two days before their arrival and would be off the island. On the one hand I was very disappointed that my wife and I would not be here to meet with them. On the other hand, I was relieved that we would not have to show them around our dirty and congested downtown area, assaulted by people trying to sell us something.
After their visit I received another e-mail, one which could serve as an example of gracious diplomacy, where he indicated that they only had time to stroll around town but he felt certain that there must be some beautiful and charming areas in Nassau.
For many reasons I was one of those people who was happy that Mr. Ingraham was once again our Prime Minister and one of those reasons was that I believed that finally, instead of just talking about it, Mr. Ingraham would set as one of his top priorities the changing of downtown Nassau from a freight depot to a beautiful tourist attraction.
I was most disturbed to read in the press that this is not the case.
We have all been embarrassed for far to long so please, Mr. Prime Minister, say it isn't so.
